Challenge

Company rebrand cycles are getting shorter. As companies try to modernise and adapt to the times and in many cases ride the current trends and waves of the moment. We at WraithX asked, what would a brand look like that was completely fluid? What would a brand that lived in the moment look like?

Goal

We aimed to create a compact but dynamic guide, centered around 1 focal element, the Wraith. Creating everything thing else around this character, informed / influenced by what was right in the moment. The Wraith in essence follows the needs and direction of the startup, while staying on top of or ahead of current design.

Result

What's interesting to see in this constant evolution, is how connected we are to the brand as our own growth as individuals is mirrored by the development of the Wraith. As of now, almost a year in steady development we see the Wraith remain as the core pillar in WraithX's identity, and all our surrounding components (typography / colour / graphics) become clearer, more sophisticated and refined as we have, building this business.

The Anti-Brand

Innovation requires change, and how could we begin to understand how to innovate without trying it ourselves.

As a result the WraithX brand is highly experimental. It was believed that a perfect logo and company name would set up any business to making money, but in reality we can have a multi-billion dollar company named after a fruit, that doesn't sell with their logo or arguably their name, but instead the experience we as consumers associate with the two. An association so powerful I didn't even have to name the company for you to know who it is and what they sell.

Pursuit Of Potential

As is accustomed to the start-up environment many new skills have to be developed in order to meet the needs of the business, this is nothing new for me, in fact I revel for the opportunity to expand my creative prowess.

In the pursuit to give the Wraith more character and life I studied an illustrated aesthetic and went as far as to learn animation to give it that "life".

The Archive

A great part of working on a brand that never settles is approaching even the smallest aspects of the business with conviction.

Email signatures like many other easily overlooked brand elements was a perfect blank canvas early on in brand development. These archived designs were one of the first moments we got to see the brand come together in practise and test if our experimental design philosophy would play well when used as a functional component.
